Ben Holste is a Sales Representative at Progressive Music and is also Past President of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. He received his Bachelors of Science in Music Education in 1969 and his Masters of Music in 1974 from Duquesne University.
Mr. Holste taught for 30 years in the Penn Hills School District; 9 years at the Junior High Level and 21 years at the High School Level. His duties during those years included Junior High Band & Orchestra, High School Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra and High School Choirs. Mr. Holste was the director of the orchestra for 19 High School Musical Productions. He also served as Cooperating Teacher for 27 student teachers from Duquesne University, Penn State University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Carnegie Mellon University.
Over his years at the high school level, Mr. Holste studied conducting as a participant in Master Classes presented by the following Nationally Recognized Conductors: Elizabeth Green, John Paynter, Eugene Coporan, Frank Battista, H. Robert Reynolds, Larry Rachliff, Jerry Junkin and Robert Cameron.
Following his retirement, Mr. Holste taught for 2 years in the Diocese of Pittsburgh’s Instrumental Music Program, grades 4 - 8 and served as Guest Conductor in May of 2000 for the Diocese of Pittsburgh’s All-Star Band, as Guest Conductor for the PMEA District 6, Elementary Band Fest, April, 2002 and as Guest Conductor for the PMEA District Junior High Band East Festival in 2004. During the school year 2000 - 2001 Mr. Holste served as Student Teacher Supervisor for the Music School of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Holste is a member of the Pittsburgh Local 471, American Federation of Musicians, the National Band Association and Phi Beta Mu Professional Band Fraternity.
Currently Mr. Holste is providing Clinic and In-service presentations for MakeMusic’s! SmartMusic Studio and Finale Notation Programs.
