In Vietnam, karaoke is not only a recreational pursuit but also business etiquette, and not joining in can cost you.

TienPhong newspaper reported that the state oil monopoly's financial arm PVFC ordered 21 officials to make "self-criticism reports" for failing to sing karaoke at a contract-signing ceremony near Hanoi. At least eight department heads were facing suspension, said the newspaper, which also published a letter by the group of officials protesting the decision as unlawful.
